AMPLIFY is our career development scheme that supports freelancers from the Global Majority to develop skills in production and/or technical theatre. Our scheme consists of paid mentoring and workplace training opportunities in a range of disciplines that include but are not limited to: sound, lighting, stage management, production management, producing, construction, and any other technical or related areas.
We’re looking to work with people who wish to undertake a career step-change or who feel they’ve hit a ‘glass ceiling.’
Through AMPLIFY, we aim to enrich England’s theatre workforce with confident and highly skilled artists, further build sector leadership and champion perceptions of off-stage career potential within UK theatre.
NOTE: We are no longer taking applications for the remainder of 2023. Sign up to our mailing list if you’d like to me notified when our application window opens.
*Tangle’s own experiences and research have identified a widespread need to provide more career development for technical theatre practitioners of UK ethnic minority heritages. AMPLIFY is Tangle’s contribution to diversifying the theatre workforce and we are therefore keen to encourage applicants from the Global Majority to approach us.
HOW IT WORKS
AMPLIFY is bespoke, authentic and responsive to the needs of participants, developing their skills in incremental steps, to a time frame and brief designed by them. Participants will be supported by the mentors who form part of our AMPLIFY community – this is an evolving cohort of sector support organisations, alumni, Associate Artists and leading industry experts.
There are two entry points to the programme:
AMPLIFY alumni who have progressed through stages 1 or 2 will be eligible for:
WORKPLACE EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING: Paid work-based placements on Tangle’s touring shows
ONGOING SUPPORT THROUGH THE AMPLIFY COMMUNITY: Opportunity for all beneficiaries to take part in regular meetings, meet mentors, peers and industry colleagues and receive further mentoring and advice when needed
CAPSULE BURSARIES: A ‘capsule’ mentoring session offering one or two hours of time with a selected mentor to start a new process of career development or unlock a specific challenge. Participant fee: £50
STEP CHANGE BURSARIES: A more structured programme helping to overcome a career step change, with mentoring sessions offered over a longer timeframe. Participant fee: £150
our AMPLIFY COMMUNITY
At its heart is our Amplify Community, a cohort of industry experts, alumni and participants in the scheme who meet together regularly to progress the social justice agenda for Global Majority offstage artists.
If you are interested in joining our Amplify Community as a mentor, please email Anna Coombs.

Genesis Kickstart Fund
We are proud to have been granted the Genesis Kickstart Fund supported by the Genesis Foundation to expand our AMPLIFY programme into 2021 and beyond.
Receipt of one of the Genesis Kickstart Fund grants will afford Tangle a vital platform to continue delivering its offstage skills development scheme for emerging technical theatremakers from diverse heritages and backgrounds.
